And lovelorn Rhino is excited to see his mate.
Shiva, Byculla zoo's only Rhino is still single. He was brought to the Mumbai zoo from Assam in 1985. This 28-year-old has been yearning for a mate. Shiva is being moved to the Ranchi zoo where officials have finally found him a partner.
"There was no female rhino even in other zoos. Either there were pairs or just males. So couldn’t get a female rhino,” says Dr M Karavle, deputy superintendent, Byculla zoo.
Lovelorn Shiva is all set to make his long journey to Ranchi to find his mate all the way in Ranchi. And to ensure that his trip is comfortable, zoo officials have packed carrots, sugarcane and other things that he likes to eat.
But ever since Shiva got a hint about his impending encounter with his mate, 24 year old Kanchi, he's been a restless rhino. Even the usual attention from curious visitors seemed to be making him nervous.
"We have heard about Shiva the rhino. But now that they're sending him, we are very sad. They should get some other rhino here,” said a visitor.
Here's hoping that that Shiva finds a perfect lovematch in Kanchi.
