Antique shawls to be auctioned

MUMBAI: To raise funds for an animal hospital, an NGO will auction antique Jamavar shawls— over 100 years old— at Kala Ghoda's Royal Oak Banquets from 4pm to 8pm on Tuesday.

"People For Animals (PFA), led by activists Maneka Gandhi and Pritish Nandy, is hoping to raise funds to build a hospital for animals on the outskirts of Mumbai. These shawls have been donated for the auction by various animal lovers," said PFA's Ambika Hirandani.

Well known designer Nisha Jamval said: "Such shawls are no longer made, so they are priceless. We have kept a base price of Rs 1 lakh per shawl for the auction at Joss."

Remembering late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, who was an animal lover, Ambika said. "He always showed love and affection towards animals. We are saddened by his demise. The auction was supposed to be held on Monday, but has been postponed to Tuesday," said Ambika.
