Udhagamandalam, Aug 2 : A mahout was today placed under
suspension for allegedly inflicting sickle injuries on a 12-year old
elephant in Theppakad Elephant Camp, in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in
Nilgiris District.
Noticing that the elephant, Bomman was bleeding at three places
on its left leg, one of the staff informed the incident to a senior
forest department official, this morning.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the mahout, 20-year old Mani,
had attacked the elephant last night, department sources said.
Mani was placed under suspension for his behaviour and the elephant is being treated for the injuries, they said
