Realise need to save environment'
ALLAHABAD: The earning of peasants like Mangu Lal is being added with earning of industrialists like Ambani
to derive income per head and this is how the country is progressing
but the Mangu Lals are losing everything including forest, soil, water
etc, opined noted environmentalist and Padma Shri Dr Anil P Joshi.
He was speaking at the G B Pant Institute of Social Sciences, Jhunsi, on Wednesday. The economy based on local resources has the potential of making the society progress, Joshi said. Dr Joshi further said that farming in India has taken a backseat over other issues like development, construction of roads, hospitals, schools, industry etc.
"Once I asked a student of Doon School, is life possible without water? A boy said yes, we have the option to fruit juice etc. The education which inculcate such understanding in kids should be scrapped as education should make the pupils sensitive towards nature, soil, water, air, forest, rivers etc. It should be the parents first who need to understand the importance of conserving environment which is as necessary as putting FDs, houses etc," he added.
