Forester urges students to preserve environment


HAZARIBAG: Inaugurating the 64th Van Mahotsava celebrations in the DAV Public school campus here on Thursday, principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF) Dr A K Malhotra asked the students to engage themselves in preserving wildlife and trees to help maintain ecological balance. Due to fast growing population, industrialization and construction of highways, the green cover is diminishing in no time. He urged the students to protect the ecosystem and conserve natural resources. Malhotra also left the students with a poignant question as to whether they prefer a green, living and vibrant earth to a scorched and dead one.

Appreciating the programme that was themed on the benefits of greenery preservation, the chief guest said he was impressed with the initiatives taken by DAV School .

Others who addressed on the occasion included D K Srivastava, additional PCCF (development) Ranchi, regional chief conservator of forests (Hazaribag) Pradeep Kumar. They stressed on the need for preservation of forests and wildlife to prevent calamities like the one that struck Uttarakhand, last month.

Principal Ashok Kumar, while welcoming the distinguished guests, said the programme had created green awareness among the students and insisted on active and willing participation in plantation work. To mark the occasion, events like speech, slogan writing and the painting were organized and later prizes were distributed to the winners of the competition by the Chief Guest.

A K Singh, DFO, Hazaribag (East) Forest Division who organized this programme proposed a vote of thanks towards the end of the programme. Earlier in the day, the chief guest planted about 22 saplings in the school premise. Besides, 5000 saplings were distributed by the forest department to the students to plant them in the vicinity.
