NDMC plant for waste

NEW DELHI: New Delhi Municipal Council will now manage green waste locally in its parks and gardens. In a first-of-its-kind initiative, NDMC installed a plant at Lodhi Gardens to manage the waste on Tuesday. Officials say, everyday close to four tonnes of green waste is generated at the garden.

"In this, the waste will be converted into pellets which can be used as manure or bio-fuel. Earlier, it was dumped at Okhla landfill site for which we had to spend a lot of money. But now, we can manage the waste locally," said Nikhil Kumar, secretary, NDMC.

The decentralized waste management plant was inaugurated by Union minister Venkaiah Naidu.
