Red sanders logs revealed 'accident'ally
HYDERABAD: Red sanders smuggling came to light in an accident on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) at Shamshabad on Wednesday where two trucks overturned, resulting in minor injuries to one of the drivers. In another accident, which also occurred on the ORR at Shamshabad, a truck driver died and his assistant suffered injuries.
In the first incident that occurred at 4 am, a truck (MH 10 Z 2546) coming towards Shamshabad from Tukkuguda rammed into another truck (AP 21 Y 2777/AP 22 Y 2777) ahead of it. Both drivers lost control of the vehicles, which turned turtle on the road.
Following the accident, 115 eight-foot-long red sanders logs concealed under casings of glass sheets on the truck with the AP registration numbers rolled out onto the road. The driver and cleaner of the truck fled from the spot.
The driver of the truck with the Maharashtra registration, due to whose negligent driving the accident occurred, suffered minor injuries and he was booked under section 279 of the IPC for rash and negligent driving. The Shamshabad police booked a separate case against the driver of the other truck under relevant sections of the law, including the AP Forest Act. In the other incident, a truck driver, Sheru Khan, 35, of Borabanda, died and his assistant, Ismail, suffered injuries when they were trying to help out the driver of a container truck that broke down on the roadside due to a mechanical error.
While going from Gachibowli to Shamshabad, Sheru noticed the container truck parked on the ORR at Rallaguda. When Sheru enquired, the driver of the container truck said the vehicle had developed some mechanical problem.
Sheru then offered to help him and went under the driver's cabin to check what the problem was. While Sheru was there, another truck came from behind and hit the container. "Sheru was crushed under the wheels of the container truck and Ismail, who was standing nearby, suffered minor injuries. The driver of the container did not suffer any injuries," the RGI Airport police said. The erring truck driver went absconding after the incident and a case was booked against him under section 304-A and 337 of the IPC.
