The Christmas tree gets a lot of attention during the holidays, but trees in general are worthy of our affection throughout the year. Such noble organisms they are! It’s difficult to deny their majesty — and even harder when you consider that some trees have been rooted to that same spot on the planet for millennia. Take, for example, Methuselah (pictured above). The 4,841-year-old bristlecone pine is the oldest known non-clonal organism on Earth. Respect! In honor of Methuselah and the other arboreal inhabitants with whom we share the planet, here’s a look at the world's 10 oldest living trees. Have a great weekend, hug a tree, and remember to visit www.mnn.com for more news you can use throughout the day. |
