Officials demolish encroachments on lake

BANGALORE: Bangalore Urban district officials on Saturday demolished several buildings and compound walls encroaching a lake in Vibhuthipura, off CV Raman Nagar, close to HAL Airport.

The land encroached is Survey 175 in the Vibhuthipura pastoral area in Bangalore East, while a total of 45.25 acres are yet to be valued as per the government guidance value. The district administration said it would cross more than Rs 15 crore, as per market value.

The land stands between CV Raman Nagar and Vigyan Nagar.

"The entire area around the lake has been developed by private builders and turned into housing plots. Several houses have already come up. The land around the lake has been used as a jogging track by local residents. Some apartments have come up on 3.5 acres of land that was earlier encroached by some private builders," said GC Prakash, deputy commissioner, Bangalore Urban. Several villas have also come up in the illegal layouts around the lake, he added.

The district administration will also look into the extent of illegal encroachment. With some land owners having approached the courts and cases are still pending, officials could not demolish all the encroachments, he added.
